Had dinner at a friend's house last night, and then watched "Hair Spray" starring John Travolta on the 46 inch HD TV. Caught the last quarter of the Packers/NY Giants game. I'm a Cheesehead but am not really into sports. But I love the whole crazy Packer thing. To me, it's so earnest and pure. The one time I went to Lambeau Field, I burst into tears, it was that moving. Honestly.

Anyway. I could become a sports fan if I had a 46 inch HD TV. As we watched the Giants run in that goal with about what two minutes to go, I thought of my sister Irene in Wisconsin, screaming in agony at the score, then screaming for joy at the yellow flag.

"I watched most of the game at the hospital while I was working," Irene emailed me today. She works weekends at the hospital greeter desk. "It was very quiet, so that worked out. The last 10 minutes of the game I was at home and I screamed many times but especially when Brett threw the interception...

"I'm bummed that the Packers aren't going to the SuperBowl," she wrote," but the Giants did play better than we did."

I like that she wasn't whiny and didn't make excuses. Isn't it nice that she gave credit where credit is due? But why not--she's a Wisconnie gal after all. That's how we are.
