The Fire solidified the second seed with a 20-12 win over Belle Plaine last Wednesday night.

Holy Family (6-2) will face No. 7 seed Zimmerman (1-7) in the first round of the playoffs at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 23 at home.

A win puts the Fire in the semifinals at home on Saturday against Mora or Brooklyn Center.

At Belle Plaine, the Tigers started the game well as they marched down the field on their opening drive and scored on a 7-yard pass play.

Holy Family answered right back, as quarterback Zack Rockers found junior Colin King wide open and ready to race 37 yards for the score.

In the second quarter, Rockers found Trent Johnson for a 10-yard score. Lizzi Traxler kicked the extra point to give Holy Family a 13-6 lead.

Belle Plaine answered back before halftime with another score, but again failed to make the extra-point attempt.

In the third quarter, the Fire’s Greg Westerhaus capped off the scoring for the evening with a nine-yard scoring run, followed by a Traxler kick to give Holy Family the 20-12 victory.

Westerhaus finished the game with 31 carries for 178 yards and a touchdown, and added a reception for an additional 49 yards. In two games, less than five days apart, Westerhaus has rushed the ball 62 times for 385 yards, three touchdowns, and one 49-yard reception– a total of 434 offensive yards in two games.

Rockers finished the evening going 9-11 for 165 yards and two touchdowns with one interception.

Johnson finished with six receptions for 63 yards and extended his state-leading total to 58 total receptions. King caught two passes for 53 yards.

Junior Tony Bauer led the defensive team with 11 tackles; Johnson also recovered a fumble and intercepted a pass for the Fire.
