A grand jury ruled that four people could be charged with providing alcohol to 19-year-old Sean Humphrey, according to a press release issued by the Carver County Attorney's Office.
Humphrey died on Feb. 25, a day after he was found lying intoxicated and unconscious on Geske Road just blocks from his Chaska residence.
A Carver County grand jury considered the case earlier this week to determine who, if anyone, should be charged and what they should be charged with. Indictments were made on Thursday and Friday.
Grace Saba Nelson, 20, and Jesse Blunt, 20, both of Chaska, were each charged with five gross misdemeanor counts of providing alcohol to a person under the age of 21, liability for crimes of another.
Joshua Julien, 22, of Excelsior, was charged with one felony count of providing alcohol to a person under the age of 21 who became intoxicated and died or suffered great bodily harm as a result of the intoxication. He was also charged with six gross misdemeanor counts of providing alcohol to a person under the age of 21.
Nelson and Blunt allegedly hosted a party where underage persons were allowed to consume alcohol at their apartment on the evening of Feb. 23. According to the release, it is alleged that Julien "brought three bottles of alcohol" to the party.
Humphrey allegedly attended the party and consumed alcohol there. Jon Kehrberg, Chaska Police investigations commander, said that Humphrey became loud during the night and was asked to leave between midnight and 1 a.m. He was found by a Chaska snow plow driver without a jacket and partially frozen to the street around 4:40 a.m.
Humphrey was initially transported to St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Shakopee and later moved to the Hennepin County Medical Center where he died on Feb. 25, his 19th birthday.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office determined Humphrey's death was due to hypothermia and acute alcohol intoxication.
Another man, 32-year-old Kirk Anderson of Chaska was also charged in the case. Anderson, who allegedly provided alcohol to Humphrey and another underage man on the afternoon of Feb. 23, was charged with two gross misdemeanor counts of providing alcohol to a person under the age of 21.
All four individuals charged in the case will be in court next on Friday, May 4.
