Old age approaches and I feel the winds blow. But the worst wrinkle I’ve discovered?Floaters in my eye when they dance on the snow.
Minnesota in winter is still an adventure for me. Having weathered my third winter here, I listen to my fellow Minnesotans grumble about the cold and the misery of the ice and snow, just as much as they protest the rain and the humidity of summer. Maybe it’s the fun of the journey for me, but having been a Californian for six decades, the change of seasons is a remarkable and exhilarating experience for me. My boss tells me that I’ll get over it one day soon. Maybe so. Until then, the nastiest part of my adventure here in Victoria is my dirty white car and the state of my floaters. They both predominate against the white backdrop of snow.
Last week I flew back to California for a visit, and by chance sat next to a gentleman who had moved from Minnesota to California. He and his wife frequently bicycled the trails from Plymouth to Victoria, stopping for meals at the Vic House. He is a retired CEO, and currently a director of another company. Discussing the nature of seniors, and their tendency to acquire wicked conditions such as arthritis, the talk moved easily to a new product that his company developed and is introducing nationally.
Linda McNulty
According to him, the product is a truly effective topical pain reliever, used by athletes and those afflicted with arthritis or any ailment that causes pain to the body. His comment was, why treat the whole body if you can effectively treat the local areas that hurt? In January, this product was introduced in all Walgreen’s pharmacy locations across the country. I am headed over there today. If it works for me, I will be happy to share the name of the product in the next column.
On another note, we are in the planning stages for Victoria’s annual celebration, Volksfest 2008, which will be held in downtown Victoria on Saturday, Sept. 20. Co-chairs of this event are Mary Erickson, Lois Plocher and yours truly. After brainstorming at our first meeting, I am here to tell you – be ready for an exciting and fun event! Regardless of your age, there will be something especially for you.
The three of us have no limits on our imaginations. (That’s a scary thought!) If the first meeting is any indication, we are going to have more fun organizing Victoria’s festival than anything I could ever imagine! If you’d like to be part of our celebration, we need volunteers for all aspects of it. Curious? Call the Chamber office at Klein Bank and talk to Mary Hadaway (952) 443-2929. Please put this on your calendar for Sept. 20. Let us celebrate our community together! Linda McNulty is a Victoria resident and a member of the Victoria Senior Commission.
