Breaking news?
Well if it has to do with winning $250, it is!
Just released is the first clue for the first ever Volksfest Medallion Hunt. Victoria residents should recieve postcards today or tomorrow with this clue.
Put on your thinking caps (your GPS device if you are directionally challenged) and see how well you think you know downtown Victoria. If you've never ventured downtown, well, it's about time, doncha think? Thre's $250 with someone's name on it.
Clue 1
The Victoria City Council set Thursday, Aug. 28 as the date for a public hearing about an ordinance amendment permitting golf carts in Deer Run and the adjoining Laketown neighborhood.
The issue came up recently in a Deer Run homeowners association discussion. Victoria Sheriff’s Deputy Erick Boder said that there have been a number of reports of underage operators this summer.
Victoria Mayor Mary Hershberger Thun announced Friday that she will run for re-election. Currently, the mayor's seat (two-year term) and two council seats (each is a four-year term) are up for election. Council seats are currently held by Kim Roden and Rick Tieden. Tieden said earlier this summer that he would seek re-election. At that time Roden had not made her decision to run for re-election..
Filing for city council seats opens at 8 a.m. Aug. 26 and closes at 5 p.m.on Sept.9. Filing fee is $2.
The Carver County Historical Society (CCHS) congratulated Ron Holtmeier
for receiving the Prudential CARES Volunteer Grant for volunteer service for
the historical society. Holtmeier has logged many volunteer hours promoting the
Andrew Peterson Farm and Carver County’s
Swedish heritage. The Prudential Foundation donated $250 to CCHS in Holtmeier’s
honor.
Here are highlights of two of Volksfest’s great events coming up
on Sept. 20!
Today is Ron Holtmeier's birthday. He's not saying how old he is but age is just a number after all...Ron and Harriet his darling wife are full of zest and vigor.Email Uncle Ron at uncleron1@embarqmail.com and wish him a "Happy Birthday." I called him on the phone and sang to him. It didn't seem to harm him any. At least he got a good laugh out of it.

Sure, sure. We know. The Ten Commandments and all. But gosh darn it. Those cars were pretty nice and wouldn't it be nice to have one of our own? Well, until that happens, we'll keep going to car shows. Here's a video clip taken at last week's Mt. Olivet car show. Check back later this week for a slide show of beautifully restored classics and some hot new ones, too.
Last Friday, we ran into Elizabeth Diethelm at School of the Wise in downtown Victoria. As usual we had a wonderful chat and caught up on local news. What does Diethelm, a lifelong Victoria resident think about a grocery coming to downtown? Go to the menu bar above and click on Multimedia-Recent Videos and find out.
