The Victoria City Council set Thursday, Aug. 28 as the date for a public hearing about an ordinance amendment permitting golf carts in Deer Run and the adjoining Laketown neighborhood.
The issue came up recently in a Deer Run homeowners association discussion. Victoria Sheriff’s Deputy Erick Boder said that there have been a number of reports of underage operators this summer.

Once again, the city of Victoria
is meeting with a potential downtown developer who envisions bringing a grocery
store downtown. That grocery store would be located on the property between
Quamoclit and the one-way street—simply known as the alley—that meets with Tower
Boulevard.
A city grocer--How much longer?
Bob Asmus, a 20-year Victoria
resident, addressed the city council. “When are we going to get a grocery
store?” he asked.
Mayor Hershberger Thun told Asmus that the city is continuing to
work on the issue through a developer, and that city staff has met with someone
with some ideas. “We realize the community is asking for a grocery store,”
Hershberger Thun said. “It’s high on our priority list.”
