VICTORIA 2030--Two open houses at Victoria City Hall are planned to discuss the topic, “What will Victoria look like in 2030?” Community input is encouraged. SENIORS ASSESS WALKING PATHS--Wanted: Older active volunteer walkers.The Victoria Senior Commission is conducting an assessment of its trails by older active volunteer walkers for the benefit of older active (senior) walkers. Anyone who enjoys walking will find this fun duty for a good cause. The commission will be looking at length of trail, walking difficulty or ease, the need for amenities, such as benches, and signage ideas for community use. Assessments will be done at your leisure during the months of September and October. You will be given the necessary paperwork to fulfill your mission. Help is needed to encourage more walking by our senior and not-so-senior residents. Happy trails to you! SWEDISH VISITORS ARRIVE—The Nordic Heritage Club welcomes 25 visitors from Sweden who will arrive on Wednesday, Sept. 12, and spend several days as guests in local host homes. During their stay, the Swedish visitors will tour the historic Andrew Petersen Farm, also known as the Rock Isle Stables in Laketown Township, old Scandia, the American Swedish Institute, Bethel University to see Scandia Chapel, the Minnesota Historical Society in St. Paul to see the Andrew Peterson diaries, and visit Swedish settlements in Lindstrom, Chisago City and Scandia. Anyone interested in hosting Swedish guests during their stay in Victoria may call Ron Holtmeier at (952) 443-2061.

DANCE AT ACORN HOUSE—The newly organized Nordic Heritage Club is hosting a community dance at the Acorn House at 8475 Kochia Lane, on Friday, Sept. 14, from 7-10 p.m. The dance will feature Scandinavian and Nordic folk dancing, and refreshments. The public is invited to learn some dances, socialize, and enjoy refreshments. The Acorn House is a former home that has been restored and is located next to the Victoria Field House. The Nordic Heritage Club was organized to celebrate and promote the Nordic culture that encompasses Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark and Iceland.
VOLSKFEST— The Victoria Chamber of Commerce’s 2007 Volksfest is Saturday, Sept. 22. Kids Fun Run and 5K begins at 8 a.m. at Victoria Field House. Other activities begin at noon in downtown Victoria. Kiddie parade, children’s activities, live music, crafters, skateboard park, karate/tae kwon do demonstrations, classic car show, fitness demos, food, beverages, beer tent, and more.
BE A VOLKSFEST CITIZEN VOLUNTEER-- Volunteer organizer Unsie Zuege is seeking members of local churches, community organizations, clubs, and neighborhood groups volunteer a couple hours of time to help make Volksfest a relaxing, fun, and entertaining day for everyone, a true people’s fest.
