After having three games canceled due to weather, the Holy Family softball team finally opened its season against Belle Plaine, defeating the Tigers 5-2. Micaela LaRose pitched a complete game with 10 strikeouts and five walks.
Holy Family baseball had a busy schedule last week, but the games didn’t play out as the Fire hoped, and the team’s record now stands at 2-3 (2-1 in the MRC).
The Fire kicked off the season last week a 21-11 win over Belle Plaine on Monday. The following day Holy Family knocked off conference foe Norwood Young America, 12-2. Pat Balius pitched a complete game and allowed no earned runs.
Holy Family sent its two state-rated teams to the Section 4A cross country meet at Battle Creek Park in St. Paul.
The Fire came back with both of the top trophies.
The Holy Family girls' team dominated the meet, finishing with 51 points, led by race champion Lauren Rice. Runner-up team St. Paul Academy amassed 118 points to qualify.
Both the boys' and girls' soccer teams at Holy Family Catholic High School are still going after two rounds of Section 6A soccer.
The fourth-seeded Fire boys' team edged fifth seed Waconia 2-1 on Thursday to put the team in the semifinals.
Chaska's boys' cross country team won the Victoria Lions Invitational team title on Tuesday, Oct. 2.
The annual meet was held at the Chaska Par-30 Golf Course.
Minnetonka's Ryan Bailey won the boys' varsity race with a time of 16:26.8, followed by teammate Nick Emmans with 16:40.5.
