Since when is the Seventies ancient history?

Madison Schumacher and I visited this year's Girl Scout Twilight Camp at Lake Minnewashta Regional Park. Madison will be an eighth grader this year at Chaska Middle School, and is writing about the camp for the Chanhassen Villager's July 31 edition. I was her photographer.

As usual, the Girl Scouts have some really fun activities where they learn all about a variety of subjects, from exploring other cultures, notable eras in American history, and much movre, along with foods, games, crafts, and interests that are all related to each time period or subject .

This year's focus is different time periods of American history, from pioneer days to the Roaring Twenties, to the Seventies. Yikes! The Seventies? That's my childhood era.It wasn't that long past was it, to qualify as the "good ole days."

Well, it certainly caught me up short, but at least I knew all the answers to the game show trivia game about the Seventies.

Went to River City Days in Chaska Saturday; spent the morning selling raffle tickets for the Library Foundation of Carver County, picked up a bag of books for $3 at the Chaska Library book sale and would second the opinion voiced by one of the many customers--"tFor me this is the highlight of River City Days."  Thanks to Barb Colhapp, Friends president and chief instigator.

Also ran into twoVictoria residents at River City Days--Patty Northrop and Barb Denslow. They were shopping the craft show. I had just seen them last Thursday night at the Victoria City Council meeting. Patty and Barb, along with Evie Ess, all of Victoria, came to show their support for the proposed Fresh Seasons Market grocery store. But the council meeting was uncharacteristically quick, and by the time the women appeared, the mayor was about to bang the gavel and end the meeting.

No matter. The women are excited about the grocer's interest in downtown.

"It's just what we need," Evie and Barb said."We've got a coffee shop, a beauty salon, a flower shop, the post office, Floyd's, a workout studio--now we just need a grocery store.
