My infomercial addiction

» Read similar stories filed under:

My husband and I have a thing about informercials. After a raucous wedding dance last summer, as we nursed our aching feet and heads the morning after, we got caught up in the CORE Latin Dance workout DVD series. We were on fire on the dance floor the night before--salsa-hip hop--boogie--freestyle--and in our altered state thought it would be fun to get the dance exercise series. Who doesnt' need a tight CORE?

More recently, my husband succumbed to the soothingly repetitive "The Bean" ab cruncher, and in a moment of expansive ambition upgraded to the Super Bean with accessories.

As for me, I received "The Fluidity Bar" two weeks ago. I love it. I look at it every day. I even used it a week ago. It's a combo of Pilates, ballet, and Eastern European P.E. exercises. It's perfect with my New York City Ballet exercise DVD, narrated by Peter Martins--I love his soothing voice.

Have you bought anything off an informercial lately or am I the only easily suggestible sucker out there? But I've got to say--I love those TimeLife music series--The Turtles, the Archies, Gerry and the Pacemakers. C'mon. You really can't find these gems anywhere else in one package.

The Bean?
So Mark bought The Bean? I've seen that at my gym but haven't tried it yet. Could I try it when I'm next visiting at your house? You can never do enough ab crunching. I am not familiar with the Super Bean so I look forward to seeing that. My husband and I were out to supper at a pub in Columbia, South Carolina on Saturday night and ran into Tracey and Keith, pals of ours. I complimented Tracey on his recent weight loss and he attributed it to better eating habits and a Bo Flex. "Although the Bo Flex is really good for drying big things like quilts and comforters after laundering." he added. "Exercise bikes are great for hanging up wet shirts" I agreed. What useful things can you do with the Bean when not using it for its intended purpose?

Mark reclines on it with a beer to watch TV in between the times he is doing power crunches.

And I like to turn it over and use it to stretch my spine. I do "Child's Pose" on it which is challenging because you have to also keep your balance. And it makes a great weight bench for incline presses and flies...

I love my treadmill. Did I tell you that Hannah likes to walk, walk walk with me on it? She lets me know she's ready for exercise by barking and putting her front paws on the side of the treadmill when I'm walking on it. She won't leave me alone until I pick her up and put on the treadmill beside me.

This is in addition her game of tossing the Kong onto the ramp and then chasing the Kong when it gets thrown off.
