The Jordan City Council has scheduled a special meeting for 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, to continue discussion about how much money residents will pay in assessments for the Highway 282 project.

Prior to the multimillion-dollar construction beginning next spring, the city has started collecting assessments from residents along the road, which is locally called Second Street. On Monday, Oct. 6, 10 of 40 property owners who were asked to pay $5,000 each submitted letters of objection to the city.
A decision in regard to assessments collectable in 2009 must be made next week.

Seventy years ago, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church hosted a bazaar. During lunch and dinner, the church served 1,600 meals.

Roger William Whipps, 54, of Jordan, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008 at Bethesda Hospital in St. Paul.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, Oct. 7, from 3-8 p.m. at Ballard–Sunder Funeral Home in Jordan. There also will be visitation at the church one hour prior to services.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Jordan with Father Timothy Yanta and Deacon Al Schroeder presiding.

James “Jim” Hill, 78, of Prior Lake, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008 at St. Francis Hospital in Shakopee.

The St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Fall Festival took place Sunday, Sept. 21, in Jordan. The chuch served 1,472 chicken and ham dinners and gave away $4,700 in cash and merchandise.

How was the fall festival at St. John's?

The Jordan volleyball team won twice on Friday night at the Lakeville North Invitational to advance to the winners bracket on Saturday.

The Jaguars defeated the No. 8 ranked team in Class 3A Blaine in straight sets and than came from behind to defeat Class 2A power Marshall in three sets.

Holy Family scored 19 unanswered points in the second half to erase a 12-point Jordan lead and win 40-33 on Friday night.

The win improves the Fire record to 5-1 on the season while the loss drops Jordan to 4-2.

Jordan took a 33-21 at 8:25 of the third quarter after Kyle Coglitore scored on a 4-yard run to complete a nine play drive for the Hubmen.
