A 10-year-old Oak Point Intermediate student collapsed Friday afternoon
while at run club at Oak Point. Joshua Damptey was then transported to
a hospital where he died.
According to an e-mail from the Eden Prairie School
District, Joshua was a fifth grade student and had previously attended
Eden Lake Elementary School. His brother attends Eagle Heights Spanish
Immersion School. Social workers and counselors will be available for
students on Monday.
Chaska's girls swim team took second place in the True Team Section 6-2A meet on Saturday at Edina.
The host team tallied 1,414 points, while the Hawks amassed 1,002. Minnetonka was third with 921 points.
Shakopee was fourth with 840.5, followed by Hopkins with 827, Minneapolis Southwest with 548, and Minneapolis South with 506.
Faribault (section 1), Lakeville North (2), Woodbury (3), Forest Lake (7) and Maple Grove (8) were champions of their respective sections.
Holy Family's boys soccer team came as close as a team could come without winning on Saturday.
The Fire battled Orono to a 2-2 tie after an overtime session on Saturday in the Section 6A quarterfinals.
The Spartans prevailed 3-2 in a shootout. William Dennehy scored both goals for Holy Family, with assists to Jason Karshnia and Bob Pohlen.
Fire goaltender Tyler Epping made 22 saves in the game as the Fire finished 11-7-2 on the season.
Holy Family's girls soccer team ended its season with a 5-1 loss to Waconia in the 6A quarterfinals.
It was a tough day for Chaska soccer teams on Saturday.
The Hawk boys soccer team came very close to upsetting No. 1 seed Eden Prairie in the playoffs, the girls' soccer team saw its season end to the top-rated team in the state.
Chaska had the underdog label going into the Section 2AA semifinals Saturday morning at Eden Prairie. But the fifth-seeded Hawks played the Eagles very tough a month ago, but played even tougher in the playoffs.

There was little surprise that Eden Prairie swept the Lake Conference boys and girls team titles on Friday at Eagan High School.
And there was equally little surprise that Chaska's teams had high finshes as well.
The Hawk boys team took second place in the Lake Conference Championships. The Eagles had 39 points to easily outdistance the Hawks' total of 88.
Chaska senior Matt Babcock took seventh place in the race, covering the 5,000-meter course in 17 minues, 6.4 seconds.
Looks like Chaska's football team ran into Bloomington Jefferson at the wrong time.
The Jaguars shut out the Hawks in the second half to score a 37-14 Homecoming victory on Friday at Bloomington Stadium.
Chaska trailed 24-14 at the half, with a TD in each of the first two quarters.
Hawk quarterback Mike Geissler passed for the scores to wide receiver Derrick Engel.

Chaska’s cross country teams will go for Lake Conference glory today at Eagan, running in the conference championship meet.
The girls race starts at 4:05 p.m., with the boys race under way at 4:40 p.m.
The Hawk boys finished third at the Meet of Champions on Saturday at Arrowwood Resort in Alexandria. Chaska finished with 117 points to finish behind Stillwater’s 105 and Moorhead’s 99.
Chaska's football team is coming off a close-but-not-a-victory Homecoming game last week, as Eastview pounded in a two-point conversion to win 22-21 in overtime.
The Hawks will have a chance to do the same to another Lake Conference foe.
Chaska travels to Bloomington Stadium tonight to cap off Jefferson's Homecoming Week.
It is the third Homecoming game in a row for Chaska, which fell 25-8 at Eagan two weeks ago.
True Ghost Stories at the Strait House
I am proud to tell you about an event that will be happening at the Strait house in Jordan on Oct 25 between 11am and 4pm. Hancock is just one of seven movies the Rex Cinema is showing this fall in an attempt to capture a slice of the local Hispanic movie-going population.
Candidates for Chaska City Council will debate tonight at 6:30 p.m. in City Council chambers at Chaska City Hall (One City Hall Plaza). The event is sponsored by the Eastern Carver County League of Women Voters. It is free and open to the public.
Running for mayor are incumbent Gary Van Eyll and Councilor Jay Rohe. In Ward 2, Greg Boe and Sara Machakaire will face off. And in Ward 4, Rick Ford and Mike Huang will go head to head.
There are three seats up for grabs this year on the Chaska City Council. Incumbent Mayor Gary Van Eyll will be challenged for his seat by Ward 4 Councilor Jay Rohe. Rohe’s seat has two challengers – Rick Ford and Mike Huang. In Ward 2, Greg Boe and Sara Machakaire will face off for the seat being vacated by Bob Lindall, who announced earlier this year that he would be stepping down after three decades of service.
