Although it was gray and overcast above, Bella Kraus, 4, of Victoria, provided a bright sunny presence at Sunday's Victoria Firefighters Relief Association Fishing Contest on Stieger Lake. Fishing contest anglers fished in mild weather, and enjoyed big fluffy snowflakes that began to drift down mid-afternoon. See more ice fishing photos under Photo Galleries, under Community.

Buy a book and help support Victoria Elementary School (VES) when you shop at Barnes & Noble, Eden Prairie, Saturday, Feb. 13.

VES will earn a percentage of all purchases (books, CDs, gifts) made by supporters that turn in a book fair voucher. Share a voucher with friends, family, neighbors and co-workers. It’s a great way to shop for Valentine’s Day and support Victoria Elementary.

The Vikings missed out on the SuperBowl, the holiday bills are coming due and it’s cold, cold, cold outside.  Now more than ever, Minnesotans need a “winter escape!”

The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum’s “Great Hall of Orchids” display, opening Feb. 12, is just what the doctor ordered.  Prepare to be dazzled as orchid expert Jerry Fischer fills the Oswald Visitor Center with at least 150 exotic orchids.   The display continues through March 14.

Went out to the annual Victoria Firefighters Relief Association Fishing Contest yesterday and had a nice time. It's one of the first years I've attended where the wind chill wasn't deadly. Overcast and then big flakes of snow started drifting down. Very pretty. I took some shots where the snowflakes are visible and they look lovely.
